The arts connect us with feelings and experiences. They amplify the power of our wisdom, but only when we open up to connect. It’s a two way street. To pave it, you have to lay out your raw vulnerable truth and let other people drive all over it.
On Saturday, May 7, I’ll be speaking at the Menilfest/Gulf Coast Indie Book Fair on “Sharing Our Truths.” It’s an interactive workshop about putting raw feelings on the page. We’ll be using poetry from Veils, Halos and Shackles as inspiration.
With the help of another Veils poet, Linda Arnold, plus my mother and the poet-daughter of one of my closest childhood friends, we’re going to help you create the beginning lines of a poem or six-word memoir.
Your reward is a connection that WILL make you stronger.
